Also known as ‘sweet root’ this herb was well used as a confectionery flavouring, but its value goes far beyond that. The medicinal use of Licorice goes back several thousand years. Licorice root has been used by traditional herbalists as a general supplement and for respiratory support. It also supports the liver and glandular system.

Licorice is included in most Asian herb combinations to balance the other herbs and to promote vitality. It has a reputation for bringing the entire body into balance and was used by Buddhist monks to clear the mind before meditation.

Licorice contains triterpenoid saponins, flavonoids, isoflavonoids, magnesium, silicon, sodium and other beneficial constituents.
